RICK HUBBARD  FOR U.S. SENATE
Autobiography of Rick Hubbard....

I met Sally in the fall of 1992, not long after Rose Marie and I separated. Sally is approximately my age, was previously married, has two sons and is the middle school counselor in the Winooski School District. We have many mutual interests in current events, policy issues, the importance of good communication, running, hiking,

bicycling, cross country skiing, canoe/kayaking, reading the New York Times, and listening to Vermont Public Radio. We choose to keep our separate households in Stowe and South Burlington, but spend as much time together as our professional and other family and personal obligations allow. Among other activities, Sally and I have backpacked together on the Appalachian Trail for a week in Connecticut and a week in Maine and bicycled for 2 weeks around much of Nova Scotia.

In the summer of 1997 I decided to see if, in my spare time, I could take my interest in cross country skiing to a higher level. The 1998 World Masters Cross Country Skiing Championships were being held in the United States in Lake Placid. I decided to substantially increase my summer, fall and winter training and to enter. I increased my long distance training runs, began adding interval workouts and, once snow came, trained on snow as often as possible. A total of 1045 competitors from 26 nations competed over a 10 day period in these World Masters Championships. Competition was extremely strong, especially among the Russian,

Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Italian, German, Austrian, Swiss, Canadian and United States racers as many former Olympians are still enjoying competitive cross country skiing as a way to stay healthy and fit for life. For my first time effort, I was pleased to medal in  the men’s 55-59 age group. In both the 30 and 50 kilometer freestyle technique races I was 13th in the World and the 2nd USA competitor. During this period it was wonderful to meet and get to know many of the competitors from these countries.

I've had a strong interest in computers since my first exposure and hands-on training while earning my M.B.A. at Dartmouth's Tuck School, and I have used computer applications extensively in connection with my law practice and other ventures since the late 1970's. More recently I have been impressed by and have tried to make good use of the availability of information via the internet. Communicating with others has also become much easier for me due to the internet, e-mail and other recent communication innovations. Most of my daily work involves  my computer use. I subscribe to and regularly read one or more regular computer publications and I attend a monthly computer user group meeting to continue to increase my knowledge. I have always enjoyed bringing together people with similar interests and I currently use the computer to assist in coordinating several groups..
