| Our elected national leaders must inform
and be informed by you, our citizens, for good decisions are based on good
information.
In addition our elected national leaders must trust
you in return, trust your
ability to deal with hard truths, accept uncertainty, allow for
human frailty, and understand the principles that underlie the policies
of our government.
Set forth below are my positions on issues
important to us all. In presenting them I've tried

Overview
If one makes a pie chart of our federal Discretionary Budget,
the money Congress allocates each year after mandatory expenses -- like
Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, other entitlements and net interest
on our national debt, our current federal priorities are as follows:
Of every dollar currently spent by Congress, we spend 47 cents on the
Pentagon, 6 cents on Education, 5 cents on health, 4 cents on the
environment, and 3 cents to assist other countries. I support a
substantial change in these national priorities in order to support our
economy, improve educational achievement, take better care of our
citizens and our health and our environment, work more cooperatively with
other countries and consequently increase our national security.
In order to bring about a change in our national priorities, I
support and advocate for meaningful campaign finance reform.
Increasingly, Americans understand that alliances between politicians
and narrow interest groups contributing large amounts of money to
campaigns can defer, misdirect, and block legislation to revise our
national priorities, even when these revisions would be in the common
interests of most Americans.
Campaign finance reform is the key which will unlock a major shift
in our national priorities.
