RICK HUBBARD  FOR U.S. SENATE
Press Announcement, June 21, 2000...
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Rick Hubbard -- 802-253-8544

Rick Hubbard is a native Vermonter and candidate for the United States Senate seat currently held by Senator Jim Jeffords. On June 28th, at Burlington City Hall, Rick will announce that over 2000 Vermonters of all backgrounds, interests and political affiliations, including Independents, Democrats and Republicans, have signed nominating petitions supporting Rick to advocate in the upcoming elections for meaningful campaign finance reform and changes to our national priorities.

These two thousand plus Vermonters have qualified Rick to be on the ballot in the November election as an Independent and also qualified him to be in his choice of either  the Democratic party and Republican party primary elections in September.

Since last September, Rick has been walking throughout Vermont to meet with citizens and advocate for national campaign finance reform. To date Rick has walked over 400 miles, visited over 70 of Vermont's 251 communities, and given many newspaper, radio and television interviews to advocate for this issue and other changes in our national priorities. Details of his candidacy and positions on issues are available on his web site at www.rickhubbard.org

By qualifying Rick to be in the upcoming elections 3 separate ways, Vermonters are showing there is broad support across party lines to repair our present political system. It's reliance on special interest money continues to limit and define our choices of candidates, cause legislation to be passed to benefit special interest contributors and cost us hundreds of billions of dollars as citizens. Rick says: "Increasingly citizens understand that alliances between politicians and narrow interest groups contributing large amounts of money to campaigns can defer, misdirect, and block legislation to revise our national priorities, even when these revisions would be in the common interests of most Americans. Vermonters realize that meaningful reform must set partisanship aside and draw support from representatives of all political parties".
